The CBS Weekend News Broadcast Associate is an entry-level journalism position which supports all members of the broadcast while providing excellent opportunities to learn the basics of reporting and production at a major network news operation.
The ideal candidate is a team player who has excellent inter-personal skills, exceptional organizational skills, is detail oriented and has a passion for current events. The role requires keeping a calm head under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude.
Work Schedule:
• Wednesday through Sunday weekly schedule
• Wednesday and Thursdays will be focused on CBS EVENING NEWS' activity
• Friday/Saturday/Sunday CBS WEEKEND NEWS' activity
Hours:
• Wednesday â€'' Friday: 10AM â€'' 7PM
• Saturday â€'' Sunday: 10AM â€'' 7PM
Onsite Role: This position requires in-person, non-remote, attendance at the CBS Broadcast Center in New York City.
Responsibilities:
• Perform administrative, operational, and editorial tasks as directed by Senior Broadcast Producer and Perform administrative, operational, and editorial tasks as directed by Senior Broadcast Producer and Senior Director of CBS News Operations.
• Assist producers in various capacities (transcribe tape, retrieve archive tape, feed tape, research stories, clear video/photos for air).
• Set up logistics for Zoom interviews and log interviews for producers.
• Produce voiceovers, SOTs and teases for a Weekend News' broadcast, including gathering and coordinating incoming video.
• Potential to field-produce coverage of news events or elements for news reports.
• Attend daily editorial meetings and pitch stories that demonstrate a sound news judgment.
• Prepare daily Opposition Logs and Rights Manager file (detailing content of CBS Evening News and competitor's broadcasts and details of all outside footage/photos used in the night's broadcast).
Qualifications:
• College degree preferred.
• Internship or comparable proven experience working on a news broadcast.
• Prior work in a newsroom setting is preferred.
• Able to work under pressure and under strict deadlines.
• Strong communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills.
• Ability/willingness to work weekends (Wednesday through Sunday schedule), overtime, and holidays, often with short notice
